Winter Riding Tips | Rainbows are bad

Winter Riding Tips | Rainbows are bad

This winter riding tip is brought to you by Protecta Insurance. They have your back even in the worst conditions. See Protectainsurance.co.nz for a quote today.

Water and oil don’t mix, so if you ever see a rainbow on the road, avoid it at all costs. Rainbows on the road are caused by oil or diesel on the road, sitting on top of the water. Other things on the road that are incredibly slippery when wet include manhole covers and shiny tar patches.

Above all,  be smooth, especially on shiny tar.

Be mindful of black ice on shaded areas or on bridges. Ride in the car tracks if necessary. It’s also a great idea to delay an early start if there's been a hard frost.

Consider a Ride Forever course in the winter months. Lots to learn,  especially about relaxing on the bike. Tensing up is bad.
