Triumph Motorcycles New Zealand has added rising motocross rider Riley Soutar to its growing off-road programme, with Soutar set to campaign a Triumph TF 250-X during the upcoming season.

The signing represents another step in Triumph’s expansion into New Zealand off-road racing, following increasing involvement in Enduro and Cross Country competition.

Soutar joins a growing list of Triumph-supported riders in New Zealand, including Jess Eccles, Millen and Riley Cargill, as the manufacturer looks to strengthen its presence across multiple off-road disciplines.

While Triumph is still relatively new to the modern competition dirt bike market, its off-road programme has expanded rapidly since the introduction of the TF motocross and enduro platforms.

The TF 250-X was Triumph’s first modern motocross machine and was developed from the outset as a dedicated competition bike. It features a compact 250cc four-stroke engine, lightweight aluminium chassis and a high-spec component package aimed squarely at the competitive 250cc motocross category.

For Triumph Motorcycles New Zealand Off-Road Manager Ray Heron, bringing Soutar into the programme is another opportunity to put the TF 250-X in front of New Zealand motocross fans.

“We’re really pleased to welcome Riley into the Triumph family,” Heron said.

“Riley is a talented rider and a great fit for what we are building with Triumph Off-Road in New Zealand.

“We’ve already seen some fantastic results from our supported riders in Enduro and Cross Country, and motocross is the next area where we want to establish Triumph as a serious contender.

“The TF 250-X has already proven itself internationally, and we’re excited to see Riley lining up on one here in New Zealand.”

For Soutar, the move provides an opportunity to continue developing aboard one of the newest machines in the 250cc motocross class.

“Partnering with Triumph is a massive step forward for my career,” Soutar said.

“The TF 250-X gives me the ultimate combination of comfort and speed as I push toward my international goals. Seeing it decked out in New Zealand’s iconic black and white makes it even more special to ride.”

Triumph Motorcycles New Zealand will support Soutar throughout the coming season as he races and trains aboard the TF 250-X.

With Triumph already increasing its presence in Enduro and Cross Country racing, Soutar’s signing signals a stronger push into motocross and another step in the development of the brand’s New Zealand off-road programme.
